Saving Energy

Why use Solar Energy

"You make the energy with your solar panels when the sun is shining and sell it to the electricity company."

Solar energy is free energy from the sun. Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels are groups of solar cells that convert sunlight into energy. This energy can then be fed into the electricity grid. You make the energy with your solar panels when the sun is shining and sell it to the electricity company. At night when there is no sun you buy the energy back from the electricity provider as it is needed.

Solar Energy is Carbon Neutral

Solar energy will last as long as the sun burns while fossil fuels are finite and unsustainable.

Most of our energy in Australia comes from coal fired power stations, which create carbon emissions that are known as greenhouse gases. The average home in NSW produces nine tonnes of greenhouse gases a year. Greenhouse gases are mostly carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and methane. When released into our atmosphere they accumulate to provide a blanket that prevents heat from escaping the planet. This accumulation of gases creates the greenhouse effect causing global warming. The Earth's temperature is rising because of greenhouse gases, causing worrying weather changes including increased floods and droughts, melting icecaps.

We can help to prevent this phenomenon by switching our energy sources away from fossil fuels to more sustainable fuels such as solar, hydro electric and wind power. This can easily be done in our own homes by installing solar energy systems and solar hot water systems thus directly contributing to a reduction in greenhouse gases as well as saving you money.

Solar Panels (Solar Photovoltaic System)

Solar photovoltaic systems, or PV Electric systems convert sunlight into energy that we can use in our homes. They are maintenance free, extremely reliable and have an estimated lifetime of more than 40 years. PV Systems are made in a range of sizes and can fit into almost any home or business. Most PV Systems are connected directly to the energy grid, so the energy can be sold back to the energy provider during the daytime. Alternatively PV Systems can use batteries to store energy, which can be ideal in rural areas.

Solar Hot Water

Solar hot water is water heated on the roof using free energy from the sun. Hot water use accounts for up to 40% of your energy bills, so free energy from the sun makes sense.

In order to heat the water you use in your home or business, Green Ecovations install the most efficient type of Solar hot water system. This is a series of shatter proof glass tubes or pipes that is installed on the roof. These systems are more efficient than flat plate systems because there is more glass to collect the sun. The water heats up and is either stored in a small tank connected to the tubes or a separate tank on the ground.
